However, after the superb Martin Odegaard had equalised for the Gunners with a deflected shot off of Bukayo Saka's pass (64), the Arsenal center-back poked home from a short distance when former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno mishandled a corner (85).

When Arsenal applied pressure at a joyful Emirates Stadium, Gabriel's goal sent them back to the top of the Premier League. Up until that point, Fulham had displayed incredible fortitude, with Leno making a series of saves to save his former team from winning while the hosts dominated.

Without Thomas Partey and Oleksandr Zinchenko, who both sustained injuries in training on Friday, the hosts lacked some of their previous fluidity, but they still dominated possession and territory from the outset - albeit without creating many clear chances.

Granit Xhaka should have scored after being set up by Gabriel Jesus, and Gabriel Martinelli struck the crossbar straight from a corner, but Bukayo Saka's one-on-one attempt was superbly saved by Leno, giving them their best opportunity of the opening period.

After the break, the Gunners had a flurry of chances, with Leno saving shots from Odegaard and Jesus, but Fulham's first goal came moments later when Gabriel dragged his feet. Mitrovic, whose physicality had troubled everyone all game, took advantage of Gabriel's hesitation to steal the ball, beat Aaron Ramsdale for his fourth goal of the year.

Saka picked up William Saliba's pass and passed it on to Odegaard for the leveller, which was assisted by a deflection. Although Fulham came close to taking the lead again when Mitrovic was denied by Ramsdale and Ben White blocked the follow-up, the Gunners eventually got the breakthrough.
